Martin J Barnett

Martin is a Teacher of Brass, Woodwind, Contemporary Guitar, Electronic Keyboard/Piano, Music Theory and Examination Coaching, and has been teaching for more than 20 years. He graduated with Honours in 1987 at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying Tuba, Piano, Voice and Trombone. He excelled in Performance, Composing/Arranging and Conducting. He has just concluded a full time post with Staffordshire Performing Arts (formerly Staffordshire Music Service) and along with Composing/Arranging for various ensembles and conducting a Junior Brass Ensemble, is a freelance professional Tuba player. Musical experience. As a Youth: Staffordshire Youth Wind Orchestra, Staffordshire Young Musician of the Year 1982 - Tuba - Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto, Staffordshire Youth Choir (Bass), National Youth Brass Band of Wales (BBb Bass) - principal from 1988, National Youth Brass Ensemble of Wales (also conducted), National Youth Choir of Wales - 2nd Bass 1986, Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen (BTM), Brass Band EEb/BBb Bass/Euphonium Collegiate Brass Quintet RWCMD (Tuba). Ensembles now include: Staffordshire Symphony Orchestra, Staffordshire Brass Ensemble, Staffordshire Festival Orchestra, Top Brass (Brass Quintet), Jaguar Cars Coventry Brass Band (signed to), Trombone festival Symphony Hall July 2006 / World Record attempt for the largest Trombone Ensemble (Bass Trombone) Solihull Male Voice Choir (Bass). Studio / session recording playing tuba on a track called ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ for the Stoke – based Band ‘This is Seb Clarke’. He has recently been offered a freelance Aural Transcribing post at Cayman Music – a creative music publishing company based in the USA and distribute worldwide.
